Mahealani translates
to mean: "Where under heaven can I find room?"
Mahealani is the 16th night of the moon, the night thought of "The
full moon" by the Hawaiian people.
As the artist explains; "The cool tones of these blues and greens
and warm russet undertones where the best colors I could use to translate
what happens as the Ti- leaves seem to 'glow ' by the light of a full
moon. As we all know the light of a full moon is bright and spellbinding.
I saw that these Ti's took on a magical realm all their own.
'To understand this, I realized I needed to sit in my garden in Haiku
Maui on the night of a full moon to understand where the colors would
settle. I set up a chair and sat for hours as I watched the colors change
by the hour. What I saw was the coolness set on the top of the leaf,
as the heat of the day nestled under the leafs.
See the stones of the "Heiau" at the base. I like to reveal
this, because here the plant is rooted in a sacred ground. The mountain
slopes set in the distance as a frame to center this amazing Ti! I was
so proud that Kaiser Permanente choose this painting to be in their
Maui Lani clinic. My Hope is the cool moon tones are healing to those
who await their appointments..... ……………….Mahalo
