It was funny, because when I first showed this piece, everyone seemed to think they knew this musician. I remember using "The Sunday Manoa" as a model, but there are so many that fit this gesture.

This was a commission from a well known family that all played Hawaiian music.

People would say "How did you get my Uncle to pose for you?" In reality this was everyone's uncle... Aloha
